Tips and Tricks to Apply for Short term internship to Canada

The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) is a binational organization that promotes understanding between India and Canada through academic activities and exchanges.  Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute became a member of SICI’s Indian member council in November 2018. 

Shastri Student Internship Program (SSIP) builds interaction by sponsoring students for a 3 month internship in member Institutes. Today’s session is focused on tips and tricks on applying to this grant.

Vaidehi Patel is an alumni of Dept. of Biotechnology of Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute (2010-2014) and has completed her masters in University of Calgary, Canada. She is presently working at HealthCanada and visiting Chennai. 

Vaidehi discussed her own experience as a student visiting Canada for the first time. Facing the extreme cold weather but warm people.  Her tips for the students on How to prepare their Statement of Purpose was to plan a 5 paragraph note starting with who they are, mentioning a specific area of interest and why they are interested in the area.  Describe their own original experience in this area and what they want to research on or develop.  Their short term goal and their long term plan.  It is important to identify the correct match with the Lab/ University so that there is a synergistic relationships.

Students from III year EEE, CSE and Biotech who attended the program interacted with VAidehi with their ideas and complete their application by Dec 14th 2018.  Dr. Arun Kumar from Dept. of Biotechnology coordinated the program.  Dr.Rama Vaidyanathan, Director (R & D) introduced Vaidehi to the audience.
